Whilst the inevitable April showers and occasional frosts may put a dampener on some of your gardening plans, daffodils are now everywhere, and flowering trees are starting to blossom. You can really start to see your garden waking up again!
What jobs should we be cracking on with this month?
Ensure you have working guttering and a water butt to make use of the rainfall
On warmer days open your greenhouse to circulate air
Empty compost bin
Sow new lawns, or repair patches that have suffered over winter
Stay on top of weeding
Pick off faded flowers and dead leaves
Plant outdoor varieties of tomatoes, chillies, and courgettes in pots, ready for planting outside later in the year
Feed citrus plants, and indoor plants
Herbs, salad leaves, beetroot and wildflower seeds can be sown outdoors
As can sunflowers!
Feed roses, and tie in if they’re a climbing variety
Check for aphids on plants, and wipe off before they multiply
Protect young plants from slugs and snails
