Did you know that grass only grows when temperatures are above 7°C? To help us all along, The Magic Molecule Co. team have put together some of their top tips to keep your lawn looking it’s best.
Regular mowing encourages roots to spread and fill any gaps that may be developing on your lawn and will also block weeds from pushing their way through. This will keep the grass looking healthy and dense. Just make sure to pick the appropriate blade height for the season. Edging shears will help keep the lawn looking particularly tidy.
Don’t underestimate the importance of aeration. In areas where the grass growth is poor or drainage seems to be an issue, using a gardening fork, push it into the lawn by about 10-15cm. Agitate it a bit and lift the soil up by a centimetre. This will reduce compaction, and allow for air to circulate around roots, encouraging grass growth.
After summer I always have some patches that need some attention on my lawn. Repair bare patches with grass seed a few days after watering with 02 Garden Lawns biostimulant. Break up the soil and scatter grass seed, followed by a sprinkling of potting compost. Make sure to cover with netting to keep birds off. For areas that are thin, rather than bare, use half the number of seeds and lightly rake over the area.
Remember – you may initially think you have better results using a fertiliser product. These usually contain a large dose of NPK (nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium) which very quickly gives the lawn a green lush look. However, there are many reasons why this does not mean your lawn is actually healthy and can lead to more problems later, as the grass becomes stressed and nutrients diminish from the soil. By using our 02 Garden Lawns biostimulant you are boosting the natural processes in the plant, making it stronger and more resilient. The lush green colour will naturally follow. See our blog.
I’m keen to maintain the biodiversity in my lawn, and don’t mind having some moss, other grass varieties and wildflowers. I want to encourage bees and other insects, but I do try and keep on top of the weeds in my garden. I remove spikey dandelions, or anything that is becoming too invasive by hand, as I do not want to use chemical weed killers. Our 02 Garden Lawns biostimulant helps encourage plant growth, including that of any unwanted ones, so it is important to keep on top of this job.And the best thing is because of its formulation I know I’m supporting the biodiversity of my garden environment.
