April Gardening Tips

Spring is officially here! Whilst not every day feels like it, occasionally we are treated with some moments of warmth and sunshine. Our plants are starting to show lots of new growth at the prospect of better weather.

Now really is the time to be treating them to our Magic Molecule formulas to boost their growth and resilience and see some fantastic results in the summer.

When we’re not dodging unexpected snowstorms, these are some of the things the team is doing in the garden this month.

  • Weeding, especially in our veg beds
  • Cover garden beds to help raise the temperature before planting
  • Make sure pea and bean plants have supports
  • Fixing patches on the lawn with grass seed, our 02 Garden Lawns formula is popular amongst the team right now!
  • Now is a good time to recut lawn edges to neaten
  • Aerate compacted areas with a garden fork
  • Check your houseplants, they may need more water as the temperature rises
  • Make sure your beds are ready for growing with a fresh layer of compost
  • Pinch out the tips of fuchsia plants and sweet pea plant shoots to encourage lots of bushy growth for the summer
  • Tie in climbing roses
  • Deadhead daffodils and tulips and tulips as they fade
  • Some of us are planting some marigolds for the summer
  • And all of us are still sowing dahlias, under cover at the moment to protect them from frost
  • Sunflowers, poppies and wildflower mixtures can be sown outside now
  • Those of us planning on growing tomatoes from seed are going to be starting to sow those indoors, same for marrow, pumpkin and courgette seeds
  • Beetroot seeds can be planted directly into outdoor beds
  • Carrot and parsnip seeds can also be planted in rows with plenty of space between each one
Carrots
  • We’re also making sure all our onion, garlic and strawberries are planted out

It’s an exciting time in the garden right now and also a busy one. We have so many seeds ready to go and cannot wait for the riot of colour and tasty things that are ahead. Don’t forget that now is the best time to incorporate our Magic Molecules biostimulants into your routine to help your garden thrive.
